Traffic Wardens Must Not Use Phones

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Daniel Dzakah, Western Regional Commander of the Motor Transport Traffic Unit (MTTU), on Friday advised metropolitan guards againstusing mobile phones and musical gadgets when directing traffic. He gave the advice when opened a two-day workshop on Motor Traffic Laws and Responsibilities for 50 metropolitan guards of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly (STMA) at Takoradi. The STMA and the Western Regional Police Command are organizing the workshop. DSP Dzakah asked metropolitan guards not to undertake motor checks when directing traffic and to give priority to vehicles on major roads. They should also avoid entering into argument with recalcitrant drivers to prevent being knocked down by a vehicle, he said. DSP Dzakah said the metropolitan guards must all be rotated to serve the various traffic points in the metropolis. He said under no circumstance should a guard be assigned to a permanent point as this was never permitted in traffic management. Mr. Yirenkyi Appiah, an Assistant Director at the STMA, said the workshop was to sharpen the skills of the participants in traffic control and management. This has become necessary because of the increase in traffic in the metropolis, he said. Mr. Appiah urged the participants to take the workshop seriously and apply what they learn.
