Yammin Out Of NDC MP Race

FOR THE first time in many years, Joseph Yammin, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will be missing in action when the roll is called for people contesting parliamentary seats in the ruling party in the region. The affable-looking politician who commands a lot of respect and power in the Ashanti regional NDC has stated that he would not be contesting the parliamentary polls of the NDC this year. Joseph Yammin contested the Kwadaso constituency polls on the ticket of the NDC in the 2004 and 2008 general elections so party members were naturally expecting him to do same in 2012. He dropped the bombshell whilst addressing NDC constituency executives at Kwadaso in Kumasi on Tuesday and reports indicate that his shocking announcement came as a big shock to the NDC in the area. Joseph Yammin did not give the exact motive behind his decision of not contesting the NDC parliamentary seat in his native Kwadaso, deepening the anguish of party members. When asked why he had decided not to contest, he replied that he thinks it is time to leave the scene for others to try their luck he had already contested twice. Despite being pushed to the wall, the experience politician stood his grounds and stated categorically that he had decided not to contest again and nothing could change his mind. Though he lost to the NPP candidates during both the 2004 and 2008 polls, Yammin did not disgrace himself on both occasions as he won massive votes, especially in 2008 which helped the NDC to unseat the NPP. Yammins exit from the NDC parliamentary primaries is said to have hit the NDC hard and it is even believed that some members of the ruling political party have started predicting the doom of the party in the Ashanti region. The NDC scribe is seen among his party members as the main pillar of strength for the NDC in the Ashanti region therefore his inability to contest the partys parliamentary seat would possibly affect the performance of the party in the region.
