Mills Is Heartless

THE YOUTH Wing of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Eastern region has described as heartless President Atta Mills endorsement of the dismissal of the honorary director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCC) at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng. In a statement, the regional youth organizer, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, on behalf of the regional NPP youth wing, said President Mills tacit endorsement of the dismissal of the renowned cardiologist who had nurtured the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCC), leading to a strike action by the doctors at the centre, showed that the president did not care about Ghanaians. Now with this unnecessary action taken by this uncaring president, precious lives are going to be lost and this was evidenced on Monday as an innocent woman who needed immediate cardio attention died because doctors at the unit have gone on a strike action in solidarity with Prof Frimpong-Boateng and for the government to rescind its decision, he said. He added that the president should be made to answer for any loss of life at the Cardiothoracic Centre as he was the cause of the problems at the centre. According to Annoh-Dompreh, if the government could not do anything to recognize the contribution of Dr Frimpong-Boateng to the Ghanaian society, it should not disgrace him by terminating his appointment under mysterious circumstances. He said it was clear that the dismissal of Prof Frimpong-Boateng was politically-motivated since he was a known leading member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP). The presidents meeting with the doctors was unnecessary because the sacking was premeditated. A person with this exceptional talent who has contributed so much to the health services of this country should have been properly honoured by erecting his bust in front of the NCC and naming the center after him, he indicated. He pointed out that the president had completely lost focus, resulting in indiscipline everywhere. The president promised Ghanaians efficient health service delivery and payment of one-time premium for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) but we are seeing the opposite, he indicated. The president is not showing any good or firm leadership and now it is like we are living under erstwhile Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC) era, he added.
