Some senior members of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) have declared their unwavering support for the party�s only member of Parliament, Samia Nkrumah in her quest to become the chairman of the party in the upcoming delegates congress scheduled for 9 to 10 September.
Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, Prof. Francis Nkrumah, Prof. E.A Afari, Prof. Fred Binka, Prof. Kwame Botwe-Asamoah and Prof Ama Ohene in a statement urged party delegates to vote massively for Samia Nkrumah to revive, revitalise and also rejuvenate the party.
It stated that the party shall work for a united Nkrumaist family, bringing back into the fold splinter groups, the many who have sat on the fence waiting for the revivalism, the many who were young pioneers, workers� brigade and of the other affiliate organizations and yet still, the many who did not return to the fold after the failed alliances in the past.
According to the statement, the decision to support Samia Nkrumah�s bid is to ensure that a fresh, bold and imaginative leader is handed the mantle to lead and transform the party.
Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News on Thursday, Samia Nkrumah stated that members of CPP are crying for change after the current leadership failed to bring change to the party.
She added that the CPP needs sound, credible and transparent leadership that can attract votes to return the CPP to power in 2012.
The Jomoro MP promised to work towards making the CPP attractive to electorates to garner more votes than it did in the last election.
Meanwhile, incumbent Chairman of CPP, Mr Ladi Nylander has dispelled suggestions that his position is under threat and likely to lose the chairmanship position to Samia Nkrumah.
According to him, the support given to Samia Nkrumah does not guarantee her victory since the Northern wing of the party has also declared support for him to be retained as chairman of the party.
He also dismissed accusations that his leadership has failed to revive the party and position it to attract more electorates in order to wrestle power from the ruling NDC government.
