Vice President Mahama On Wikileaks

The Vice President John Dramani Mahama has taken a swipe at journalists for what he calls a "media warfare", which he believes has been heightened by latest revelations by the whistle blower website, Wikileaks. John Mahama accused the media of taking the juiciest parts of the Wikileaks expos and using it against their perceived opponents and in effect, neglecting matters that are of national interest. A cursory look at our media would seem like we are a nation at war. Newspapers and radio stations are lined up in the political trenches with their political allies throwing printed and verbal grenades; Taking shots at the enemy lines with each other trying to outdo the other AND trying to inflict maximum damage on the perceived enemy. The recent Wikileaks cables have accentuated the media warfare, nothing in this country matters anymore. Reprinting the juiciest gossips from the US cables provides a media that was already polarized on partisan lines, with enough ammunition and firepower to pound ones opponent for the rest of the year. John Dramani Mahama also for the first time denied reports that he, at one point in time pulled out a gun on former President Jerry John Rawlings at his office. Speaking at the 16th Ghana Journalists Awards Night in Accra, he challenged journalists to shun away from what he terms the regurgitation of malicious rumor, ideal gossip and absolute downright lies and concoctions. He also denied for the first time, rumors that he is at logger heads with Water Resources Works and Housing Minister, Hon. Alban Sumana Bagbin. There were reports suggesting that the two got into a brawl during a meeting over the crisis-ridden STX Housing deal.
