TWO OUT OF THREE young men who allegedly butchered a taxi driver to death, after snatching his Kia Sephia taxi cab at Anyah Nsunfa near Ablekuma, a suburb of Accra, have finally been arrested by the Odorkor District Police. The suspects are Isaac Opoku aka KB, 24, a petty trader and Kwame Agyapong aka Obo Spirit, 23, both residents of Ablekuma Fan Milk in Accra. The third suspect, Yaw, is still at large. The three-member gang was said to have called the deceased, Eric Kwesi Ankomah, 30, on phone to pick them up around 3am on Thursday, August 25, 2011, from their Nsunfa residence to the Kotoka International Airport for a flight. Upon reaching the area at the agreed time, the suspects followed the victim to a nearby bush and cut him into pieces. They also took his taxi cab with registration number GR 1119-09 to Kwahu Tafo and later to Kumasi for commercial purposes. Upon a tip-off, police arrested Isaac Opoku at his hide-out at Fan Milk on Sunday, September 4, 2011 while Kwame Agyapong was also nabbed at Kwahu Tafo the following day. However, the third suspect, Yaw, managed to escape. The Kia Sephia has since been retrieved in Kumasi with the help of the police. Meanwhile, the mutilated remains of the deceased were gathered from the scene by the police and sent to the morgue for autopsy. Narrating the story to Dail Guide, the Odorkor District Police Commander, Ebenezer Asare, indicated that Kwame Agyapong was an acquaintance of the deceased who also lived at Anyah NIC. In April this year, Kwame Agyapong, who was then a mate, paid an amount of GH�50 to the deceased, Eric Kwesi Ankomah, to teach him how to drive. Two months later, the vehicle was taken away from the deceased so he could not continue to take the suspect through the driving lessons. On August 11, 2011, Isaac Opoku and Kwame Agyapong saw the deceased in his new Kia Sephia at Ablekuma Fan Milk where they hitched a hike to Nsunfa Anyah. After alighting from the deceased�s vehicle, Kwame Agyapong complained bitterly to his accomplice about how the deceased collected his money to teach him driving but failed to fulfill his promise. Suspect Isaac Opoku allegedly suggested that they eliminate Eric and take over the vehicle. The two were said to have contacted Yaw to assist them to carry out the nefarious activity. Suspect Yaw charged the two an amount of GH�30 while they two also arranged for the machetes to be used for the act. On August 24, 2011, Isaac Opoku called the victim on phone around 8pm and introduced himself as a customer who wanted the driver to pick him up from Circle OA station at 9pm to Nsunfa. He later called the victim again to rather pick him up around 3am from Nsunfa Anyah the next day to the airport for a flight. When the victim got to the agreed location at the scheduled time, Isaac Opoku urged him to park along the main road while he (the victim) help him to collect his belongings into the car. Yaw and Kwame Agyapong were then hiding in the nearby bush and when the victim approached, they descended on him and butchered him to death. They chopped the victim into pieces and removed his trousers. Suspects Kwame Agyapong and Isaac Opoku bolted with the taxi cab to Kwahu Tafo, the hometown of Kwame Agyapong while Yaw left for his house. The two later handed over the vehicle to a friend at Kumasi to use for commercial purposes. The friend, who suspected that the vehicle might be a stolen one, reported the incident to the police. This led to the arrest of the two suspects on September 4 and 5 2011 from their hideouts at Kwahu Tafo and Ablekuma Fan Milk. Suspect Yaw however managed to escape but he is high on police wanted list.
