Police Hunt Murderer

The police are hunting 25-year-old suspect Yaw, an accomplice of two others who allegedly butchered a 30-year-old taxi driver at Nsunfa Anyah near Ablekuma, Accra. The suspect, according to information, hails from Esaasi Bontifufuo in the Amansie West District in the Ashanti Region. Suspect Yaw, who might still be hiding at his Nsunfa residence, was part of a three-member gang that allegedly butchered Eric Kwesi Ankomah on August 25, 2011 at Nsunfa. Meanwhile, the two other suspects, Isaac Opoku aka KB 24, and Kwame Agyapong aka Oboye Spirit, 23, are resting in the cells of the Anyaa police station pending prosecution. The gang was said to have called the deceased, Eric Kwesi Ankomah, on phone to pick them around 3am on Thursday, August 25, 2011 from their Nsunfa residence to the Kotoka International Airport for a flight. Upon reaching the area at the agreed time, the suspects followed the victim to a nearby bush and cut him into pieces. They also took his taxi cab with registration number GR1119-09 to Kwahu Tafo and later to Kumasi for commercial purposes. Upon a tip off, police arrested Isaac Opoku at his hide-out at Fan Milk on Sunday, September 4, 2011 while Kwame Agyapong was also nabbed at Kwahu Tafo the next day. However, suspect Yaw managed to escape. The Kia Sephia has since been retrieved at Kumasi with the help of the police. Meanwhile, the mutilated remains of the deceased were gathered from the scene by the police and sent to the morgue for autopsy. Giving the genesis of the story to Daily Guide, the Odorkor District Police Commander, Superintendent Ebenezer K. Asare, indicated that Kwame Agyapong was an acquaintance of the deceased who also lived at Anyah NIC. In April this year, Kwame Agyapong, who was then a mate, paid an amount of GH50 to the deceased, Eric Kwesi Ankomah, to teach him how to drive. Two months later, the vehicle was taken away from the deceased so he could not continue to take the suspect through the driving lessons. On August 11, 2011, Isaac Opoku and Kwame Agyapong saw the deceased in his new Kia Sephia at Ablekuma Fan Milk where they hitched a hike to Nsunfa Anyah. After alighting from the vehicle, Kwame Agyapong complained bitterly to his accomplice how the deceased collected his money to teach him driving but failed to fulfill his promise. Suspect Isaac Opoku allegedly suggested that they eliminate Eric and take over the vehicle. The two were said to have contacted Yaw to assist them to carry out the nefarious activity. Suspect Yaw charged the two an amount of GH30 while the two also arranged for the machetes to be used for the act. On August 24, 2011, Isaac Opoku called the victim on phone around 8pm and introduced himself as a customer who wanted him to pick him up from Circle OA station at 9pm to Nsunfa. He later called the victim again to rather pick him up around 3am from Nsunfa Anyah the next day to the airport for a flight. When the victim got to the agreed location at the arranged time, Isaac Opoku urged him to park along the main road while he (the victim) help him to collect his belongings into the car. Yaw and Kwame Agyapong, who were then hiding in the nearby bush when the victim approached, descended on him and butchered him. They chopped the victim into pieces and removed his trousers. Suspects Kwame Agyapong and Isaac Opoku bolted with the taxi cab to Kwahu Tafo, the hometown of Kwame Agyapong while Yaw left for his house.
