AN ATTEMPT by some National Democratic Congress (NDC) gurus in the Central Region to organise machomen to hoot at the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, backfired yesterday when the fishermen gave Nana Addo a rousing welcome at Cape Coast as part of his 10-day listening campaign tour of the region. The group was spotted around the Cape Coast Castle near the Christ Church Anglican Cathedral. DAILY GUIDE learnt that the group included some bodyguards of a regional minister who were driving two ash and green-coloured 4X4 Nissan Patrol cars. The group got down from the cars and went and sat under a shed as some were spotted at vantage points discussing seriously how to influence some fishermen to join them to undertake their agenda. The group, which did not get any support according to DAILY GUIDE�s information, had no other option but to leave the place simultaneously. Nana Addo and his entourage got to the place when the plotters had left the scene some minutes earlier. Thousands of fishermen, amidst drumming and dancing, composing all kinds of songs for Nana Addo, trooped to the forecourt of Lighthouse Chapel International to have a glimpse of him with Asafo companies displaying some cultural performances in the area. Addressing the crowd, Nana Addo expressed concern about the way the NDC had failed to supply enough premix fuel to the fishermen to boost the fishing industry. He assured the fishermen that plans were underway to assist them to secure loans to purchase fishing equipment when elected President. Nana Addo bemoaned the situation where unemployment had gone high, compelling most energetic youths to be playing cards at a time they were supposed to have been working. The flagbearer therefore appealed to Ghanaians to vote for him in the 2012 general elections. �I will never disappoint you when you hand over power to me because NPP has Ghanaians at heart and even little children can testify to that assertion,� he stated. �You can all bear me out that, former President Kufuor did a lot for Ghanaians by instituting a lot of schemes such as the National Health Insurance Scheme, capitation grant, National Youth Employment, free maternal delivery and School Feeding Programme,� he added. Nana Addo and his entourage earlier visited Ankaful, Abura, Siwdu Magazine, Kotokuraba Market, University of Cape Coast (UCC) Campus as well as Apeowsika, a community at UCC where he interacted with students and residents of the area.
