Frimpong Reveals Making Ghana Pledge

Emmanuel Frimpong says he decided to play for Ghana over England because he felt he had made a promise to the African country to play for them as soon as he had the choice. There was a chance I could play for England, Frimpong said. But England have loads of great players so I dont think they will miss me. I just felt that I made a pledge to Ghana four years ago and said if I made it into the Arsenal team, I would always choose them. I couldnt let them down as I am not the type of person to back down on my word. It was a hard decision to make but I am happy to settle it. The Arsenal playmaker made the decision to play for Ghana over the last week, with Arsene Wenger saying that while he would have preferred Frimpong to play in England for logistical reasons, ultimately he respected the 19-year-olds decision. Frimpong signed a professional contract for Arsenal in 2010 after moving through the youth academy, and has now played three senior games for the north London side.
