The embattled Volta NDC Youth for Action has made shocking revelations against Volta Regional Minister, Joseph Amenowode and Ho Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Kodobissah.
The group alleges that the two have been using their office to engage in underhand dealings with regards to the award of some contracts in the region and municipality and have called on the Office of the President to investigate the award of contracts by the Volta Regional Coordinating Council (VRCC) and the Ho Municipal Assembly.
The group in spite intimidation and maltreatment by some party leadership in the region went on a peaceful demonstration on August 3 to demand that the duo be ousted by President Mills due to abysmal performance.
Twelve of their members were arrested by police for disturbing public peace and unlawful use of NDC logo among other charges; leader of the group, Alhaji Bello and the Organiser, Daniel Idikoko were later suspended from the NDC by the Ho Central Secretary, Stanley Glate.
Their arrest prevented the group from holding a scheduled press conference to explain in detail why the YFA went on demonstration and some revelations they believed would help inform the President about the true state of affairs in the region.
A statement circulated after the demonstrators were released from police custody two nights ago alleged that Mr. Amenowode was hijacking contracts for his favourites.
The statement signed by the organiser of the group, Daniel Idikoko alleged that �There is a conflict of interest as he always ensures that contracts are awarded to his favourites.� It added that though tenders were advertised, deliberate attempts were made to prevent other contractors from landing such these projects in contravention of the Public Procurement Act.
The group also alleged that on May 1, 2010 which was a public holiday, several tender documents were sold in the office of the regional minister by his special assistant who they identified as Courage Danku.
Mr. Amenowode is also accused of constantly disrespecting and maligning of the chiefs of the region, particularly the Volta Regional House of Chiefs (VRHC) as well as the media. This they said does not augur well for the proper development of the region.
The group also called for the removal of Isaac Kodobisah and a thorough investigation of his tenure in office alleging he had built a mansion after barely two years in office. �It is on record that somewhere in October 2010, the Ho Municipal Assembly purchased 250 street lights without due process before it was later advertised in the newspapers this February 2011,� the statement said
DAILY GUIDE investigations revealed that one of the said houses supposedly belonging to MCE is located around the Ho Military Barracks. The structure as at the time this reporter visited the site was about 90% complete.
The YFA wants a probe into a shopping mall being constructed at the Ho Civic Centre, a site originally paved and cleared for a taxi rank. The pavement blocks and structures were removed and the contract abrogated under mysterious reasons to make way for the two storey shopping mall worth GH�778,800.15, it said
The statement added that a grader purchased by the Ho Municipal Assembly from its share of the Common Fund has been used for commercial purposes since October 2010, but no account had been rendered to the assembly.
The group described the two officials as hypocrites and selfish politicians who put their interest first at the expense of the Volta region�s development.
They described the government�s promise of the Volta University and Eastern Corridor Roads as a social contract between the NDC and the region since it was stipulated in the manifesto of the party. As far as the group is concerned, the region has satisfied their side of the bargain so it�s now up to government to fulfil its side of the contract.
