GBA Leadership Suffering From "Selective Amnesia"

One of the four lawyers blacklisted for making accusations of corruption against the judiciary, has lashed out at the leadership of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) for declaring war on corruption in the Judiciary. Abraham Amaliba said the declaration by the GBA at the opening of its Annual General Meeting in Cape Coast is just a face-saving move. The GBAs President, Frank Beecham admitted in a speech that recent reports of corruption in the Judiciary has brought the Judiciarys image into disrepute. However, speaking to Citi News, Mr. Amaliba said the leadership of the GBA does not mean what it says. He is advocating a change in the leadership of the association as a step in saving its image. He stated that I have no problem if people are joining us to fight corruption in the judiciary but the level of hypocrisy that has been shown by the executives of the Ghana Bar Association is what is worrying. If there is a commitment to fight corruption, that commitment should have been there from day one. "The commitment is not going to come after you have gone public to condemn a section of your group who were as it were articulating views concerning corruption in the Judiciary and for you to now do a 360 degree turn about to say that you want to fight corruption. I think that the Ghana Bar Association with their current executives should not be taken seriously by any person. The current leadership as it stands is suffering from what I call Selective Amnesia. The current executives are not ready to protect its own. What they do is to protect people who are close to them and we cant all be close to them.
