The spokesperson of former President Rawlings, Kofi Adams has revealed that his boss would have set up a foundation like his successor, if the erstwhile NPP administration had not frustrated his efforts. Mr. Rawlings� successor, John Kufuor launched the John A. Kufuor Foundation on Tuesday which will include a leadership training center to be based at the University of Ghana and a Library and a Museum to be based at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The occasion was graced by two foreign former Presidents, Thabo Mbeki of South Africa and Horst Kohler of Germany as well as Ghana�s former President, Mr. Rawlings. Mr. Kufuor has received a lot of praise for the gesture with many describing it as a sign of statesmanship. The gesture also led to calls by many for Mr. Rawlings to emulate his successor. However, speaking to Citi News in an interview on Wednesday Mr. Kofi Adams stated that if the then NPP administration had not frustrated ex President Rawlings, he (Rawlings) would have set up a similar foundation by now. According to him, a parcel of land has already been acquired for the purpose and a similar feat will soon materialize. �This has been there all this while but you know the situation that President Rawlings found himself from 2001 to 2008. Even a University that he used an award to establish that wanted to honour him with a doctorate degree was rejected by the then administration, so everything was done to make it impossible for him to operate and put things together. �Today President Kufuor is cutting sods on two public Universities and the government has not raised and eye against it, so it tells you that there is a difference, if the then administration had extended the same hand of cooperation that it is getting today, I believe things would have gone far. �Land has already been acquired in Tema and the processes are on-going. I am quite sure that by next year everything would be ready for the inauguration of the Foundation�.
