Founders Day May Not Survive Other Govts If... Kweku Baako

Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide, Malik Kweku Baako, believes the commemoration of the countrys Founders Day may not survive other governments apart from the NDC. He strongly believes the continuous politicization of the Founders Day celebration may affect its observation in future if the NDC lose power. According to him, the day may suffer some legislative problems in future should the ruling party continue to use it as a political tool and if the partisanship associated with the observation of the day persists. Government has set aside 21st September as a statutory public holiday in commemoration of Ghanas first president, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. This is in recognition of his foresight and fortitude which led to Ghana's attainment of independence from British colonial rule in 1957. This has however been met with fierce opposition with some people raising concerns about the recognition of only Dr. Kwame Nkrumah as the Founder of Ghana. Contributing to discussions on Joy FMs Newsfile program, Mr. Baako said even though there is some escape route for the President to endorse such a day, it is better for a parliamentary cover for sustainability. If the partisanship continues, then it could suffer some legislative problems in future. Im not even sure if it is captured by a parliamentary authority but I think there is some escape route for the president to endorse it but when you want sustainability, it is good when it has a parliamentary cover, he noted. He noted that even though a parliamentary cover can be changed, it will be better to create conditions for a bipartisan commitment to the commemorating of Founders day. Why wont we create conditions so that we will have a by-partisan commitment to such a create day, he added.
