The General Secretary of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie says son of Ghana�s first President, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah made a huge mistake by joining the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the first place and welcomes his decision to finally resign from that NDC.
Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie also added that Sekou Nkrumah�s endorsement of Nana Akufo Addo only confirms that Ghanaians are becoming frustrated by the inability of the Atta Mills led government to deliver on its promises.
Dr. Sekou Nkrumah resigned from the NDC a day after his sister, Samia Nkrumah was elected chairperson of the Convention People�s Party, citing that his continuous stay in the NDC would be a stumbling block to the progress of his sister.
However, barely a week after his resignation from the NDC, Dr. Sekou Nkrumah who was dismissed as head of the National Youth Council for openly describing President Mills as a weak leader, has declared his support for Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Presidential candidate of the NPP.
Dr. Sekou Nkrumah stated that it will be in order to declare support for Nana Addo, adding that "the NDC government had failed Ghanaians and for that matter did not deserve another term in office�.
Sekou disclosed that President Mills and his government had not been able to impress him along with millions of Ghanaians who thought their living conditions would be better under an NDC administration, hence his decision to rally Ghanaians to vote for Nana Akufo-Addo.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM on Monday September 26, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John noted that the NPP welcomes Sekou�s endorsement of Nana Addo adding that Sekou could not survive the NDC because the NDC is not open to criticism from �open minded� people like Sekou Nkrumah.
�We (NPP) welcome this endorsement, Sekou is a colossus and his loss to the NDC has dealt a suffering blow to the them. He is a man of conviction, he speaks his mind and that is why he could not survive in the NDC because it is a party which does not believe in people speaking their minds, they want people to be zombies who follow their party lines without critical thinking�. Sir John said.
