South Africa To Host 2013 Nations Cup

South Africa have been awarded the hosting rights of the Africa Cup of Nations in 2013, understands. The 2010 World Cup hosts thus replaces Libya who will now host the 2017 edition of the finals, the Caf Executive Committee decided on Tuesday. CAF have confirmed South Africa as hosts of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations while Libya will host the 2017 tournament, a CAF executive committee member told Africas football governing body agreed to swap the rights to host the event because of the political upheaval in Libya. Libyas hosting of the 2013 tournament had been in doubt for some time because of the continuing violence there. Having successfully hosted the continents first World Cup last year, South Africa was already earmarked to host the Nations Cup in 2017. South Africa had earlier this year also taken over the hosting of the African Under-20 tournament from Libya. Other options like Algeria and Nigeria were said to have been considered but Caf opted for SA in the hopes of staging the tournament while the new and updated stadiums used for last years World Cup are still in good condition. Meanwhile, South Africa will host the 2014 edition of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) instead of Libya, Caf confirmed. The Caf Executive committee also granted the 2014 Africa Womens Championship to Nambia while Niger will stage the 2015 Africa U17 Championship. Madagascar will host the 2017 Africa U17 Championship while Senegal have been confirmed as hosts of the 2015 Africa U20 Championship.
