Mr Mohammed Ahmed Baba Jamal, a Deputy Information Minister, says his decision to contest the Akwatia Constituency Parliamentary Primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was due to pressure from supporters. He said majority of the local executives of the party are also behind the move. He said since he did not want to disappoint people who think he is capable of winning the constituency seat for the NDC, he had decided to heed the call. Mr Baba Jamal was speaking to party members after the �Movement for Baba Jamal 2012�, had paid a visit to thank him for accepting to contest the primary. Two other contestants for the primary are Mr Kweku Effisah, a businessman and Mrs Christiana Bediako, a teacher and member of the Kwaebibirem District Assembly. Cheered on by the large crowd that gathered at the constituency office of the party at Akwatia on Tuesday, Mr Baba Jamal said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had successively won the Akwatia constituency seat thrice but the area had nothing to show for electing the Party to parliament. He said the electorate would this time round not make the mistake by returning the NPP candidate to parliament. Mr Baba Jamal said Akwatia needs a good Member of Parliament, adding that he would make the difference if elected to parliament. Promising to capture the seat in the next elections, Mr Baba Jamal asked supporters of the NDC to intensify their campaign. Mr Baba Jamal, a former Deputy General Secretary, alleged he lost the last elections due to rigging and other malpractices, adding it would not happen again in 2012.
