'NDC Has Taken A Bold Step'

The General Secretary of the Peoples National Congress (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has hailed the swift directive of the ruling National Democratic Congress to freeze all primaries in constituencies of PNC Members of Parliament. The move to safeguard the marriage of convenience between the two parties came a day after the PNC accused the NDC of betrayal after reports emerged that the ruling NDC was holding parliamentary primaries in the Sisala West and Builsa South Constituencies, which are seats belonging to members of the PNC. Honourables Haruna Bayarigah, PNC MP for Sisala West and Azong Alhassan, PNC MP for Builsa South, threatened to withdraw their membership of the majority group in Parliament if nothing was done about the issue. However, on Wednesday the Majority Leader in Parliament, Cletus Avoka, confirmed to Citi News that with the directive to cease primaries in those constituencies the issue had been resolved between the two parties. Speaking on Eyewitness News on Citi FM, Wednesday, Mornah said the bold step taken by the NDC has saved the relationship between the two parties. He added that he was overwhelmed by the level of maturity shown by the NDC, but was quick to add that the PNC would still be monitoring the situation to see if the NDC would act accordingly. I would want to commend the majority leader for the maturity that he has shown on this matter, he said. I have had calls from the NDC General Secretary and National Organizer and I think that they have all shown maturity I think that the NDC has taken a bold step and they have probably restored our understanding of the relationship between us, but as a party we will keep monitoring. I think that this statement puts to rest the issue about our disagreement with them, Mornah stated.
