Chelsea Unveil 19 Players

In their quest to retain the Glo Premier League, 2010/11 champions Berekum Chelsea have unveiled 19 new players at the Media Centre of the Accra Stadium. Ex Black Stars/Asante Kotoko stars Baba Adamu Amando and Charles Taylor were among the 19 that were outdoored at the ceremony yesterday. Others were former Heart of Lions midfielder Gladson Awako, Nurideen Ali, Prince Anokye, Kwaku Andoh, Isaac Amponsah, Solomon Asante, Isaac Amponsah, Abdul Kamarah and Gafaru Abdulai. The rest were Musah Mohammed, Alfred Okaikwei, Celestine Mbrasem, Yasir, Richard Kissi Boateng, Isaac Morgan, Habib Mohammed and Joseph Takyi Mensah. Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Member George Afriyie, who stood in for club president Emmanuel Kyeremeh, commended the management of Chelsea for the initiative. This is a good initiative, introduction of players does not only help fans associate themselves with clubs, but also help fill the stands, the former All Blacks/Olympics Chief Executive said. The acting chairman of the Ghana League Clubs Association of Ghana (GHALCA) Alhaji Raji revealed that the high level of competitiveness in the G-8 and Super 2 tourneys was ample testimony that the local league had not lost its steam, and expressed the wish that it would be translated into the league. Former Black Stars right back Tony Baffoe charged the players to go the extra mile on and off the pitch to justify the huge investments made with regard to their poaching. Work on your quality, go the extra mile by being punctual at training. Great players like David Beckham worked harder on their talents, hence their fame, Baffoe said. Chelsea open their title defence this weekend as guests of Mighty Jets at the Accra Stadium this Sunday.
