Okada Boys Grabbed

The Police Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has impounded 27 motorbikes whose riders were using them for commercial purposes within the Accra metropolis. Thirteen motor riders popularly called �Okada� were however arrested and would be put before court. They included Abdul Raman, Ibrahim Ali Abubarkar, Alhassan Nurudin, Alhassan Abdul Raman, Nicholas Kottey, Micheal Boateng and Nuhu Abubakar. The rest were Atanga Kamara, Mohammed Sashie, Micheal Quaye, Abdul Raman Mohammed, Benjamin Komondor, and Emmanuel Okaine. The confiscated motorbikes had not been registered, while others had fake registration numbers, or no insurance, with the rest being without helmets.The riders were arrested at Abossey Okai, Agbogbloshie, and Korle-Bu areas in Accra. DSP Samuel Sasu Mensah, an officer in charge of investigations at MTTU, told the media that the operation took place between 4.00pm and 6.00pm on Wednesday evening. He noted that some of the riders, upon seeing the police, abandoned their motorbikes and absconded.So far, 27 of the motorbikes were impounded with 13 of the riders in cells.He noted that those with genuine insurance and registration were released back to their owners.
