'NDC Together With Any Party Will Still Lose The 2012 Elections'

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) says the merger of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will not in any way improve the abysmal performance of the NDC government. According to the NPP, since the NDC decided to do away with former President Rawlings and his wife in important things relating to the party, the life patron of the DFP, Dr. Yao Obed Asamoah has been in bed with them. The DFP was formed after some members of the NDC, led by Obed Asamoah broke away from the party following misunderstanding between him and former President Rawlings. The Party has since been separated from the NDC and supported the NPP in the 2008 general elections. But on Saturday October 8, the DFP met in Accra to finalise their moves for a comeback to the NDC. Speaking to Citi News, General Secretary of the NPP, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John stated that the NDC together with any other party will still lose the elections come 2012. Sir John added that he is not sure if Dr. Obed Asamoah controls the DFP as he doesnt decide for his members which party they should support. Even though Obed says that the DFP has now gone to join the NDC, I am not sure whether he controls his people, in that respect we are worried at all. NDC with whoever will lose the 2012 elections. DFP joining the NDC will not add or subtract from their abysmal performance. However, the General Secretary of the ruling NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has stated that the decision of the DFP to rejoin the NDC is an endorsement, of the partys democratic credentials. Asiedu Nketia in an interview with Citi News said the move is recognized, but the NDCs National Executive Committee, is yet to approve and sign for a complete merger. He also stated that the merger is a positive move, as 2012 draws near. Meanwhile, the life Patron of the DFP, Dr Obed Asamoah told Citi News in an interview that their decision to rejoin the NDC was not motivated by any promises made to him and members of his party.
