Kufuor Hasnt Been Paid For 3yrs Now

Three years after peacefully handing over power to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), former President John Agyekum Kufuor has still not been paid his salary as required by the constitution. Mr. Frank Agyekum, Spokesperson for the former President who disclosed this, also revealed that none of the members of his staff have been paid their gratuity, despite governments repeated assurances to address the issue. According to him, President Kufuor has received part of his benefits as a former president but his monthly stipend or salary has not been paid since he left office in 2009. Government made a commitment to pay his monthly salary and also pay for the monthly salaries of his staff but almost three years down the lane, none of his staff has received salary from government and he has not been receiving his monthly salary either, Frank Agyekum said. Speaking in an interview on PeaceFM, the spokesperson for the former President pointed out that though Mr Kufuor is not enthused, he has been silent over the issue because there was a gentlemans agreement about not rushing to the media until the government honours its side of the bargain. He, however, acknowledged that the NDC government has offered the ex-president two vehicles with the promise of the delivery of two more and an office accommodation which is also under construction. He also confirmed reports that Mr Kufuor was offered a building at Trasacco but he rejected it. He (Kufuor) rejected the house because our input was not adequately taken and we dont even know the location of the house and what went into the building construction, he added.
