MION Chiefs Applaud President Mills

The Chiefs and people of Mion have expressed gratitude and appreciation to President Prof. John Evans Fifi Atta Mills for the good work done to the enhance the welfare of the people of Mion and the Northern Region as a whole. Sang Lana Abukari Musah read a statement of appreciation on behalf of the Chiefs and people of Mion at a durbar held at Sang in the Northern Region. He indicated that it is quite obvious that the core mandate of a good leader is to create an enabling environment for the roots and that is precisely what the President has done to the entire good and hard working people of Mion by creating a new district called Mion District with its capital located at Sang which happens to be a centre of the constituency. Sand Abukari Musah stated that it is on the basis of "this beautiful and soul touching initiative" that they thought it would not be out of place for all the chiefs, opinion leaders of the various communities in unison say they thank the President. According to him, the concept of decentralization is to primarily take development to the door steps of the ordinary people for speedy implementation policies noting that with the creation of the new District, the core values of the decentralization would be felt by every community within the district irrespective of their political affiliation. He reminded them that unnecessary adversarial tendencies and agitative postures should be avoided and rather unite as an entity to fight their common enemy which is hard core poverty so that areas such as agriculture and food security, water and sanitation, health and education would be accessible to all. Sang Lana Abukari said they will also like to register their alloyed and sincere appreciation to the Member of Parliament for Mion, Dr. Ahmed Alhassan Yakubu, for his immense contribution towards the creation of the new district. On his part, the Yendi Municipal Chief Executive Mr. Issah Zakaria, said no development can take place when there is no peace and asked them not to take the peace they are enjoying for granted. He said the decision of the Government to create new districts in the country is to take development to the people at their door steps as the decentralization concept demands and not to create problems for the beneficiaries. Mr. Zakaria stressed that the creation of the new Mion district should not create any havoc within the district, rather they should think and plan how to manage it. He warned that the Yendi Municipal Security Committee will not spare anyone who will like to create problems in the area to disturb the peace the people are enjoying.
