Nana Akomea: NPP Made Ghana Better Today; Not Nduom

Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea has rejected claims by an aspiring presidential candidate of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom that he (Nduom) should be credited with several of the ongoing national policies in the country. Nana Akomea posits that it was rather the erstwhile NPP government that made Ghana better today, not Dr. Nduom, as he might want the world to believe. According to him, it was the NPP under the aegis of former President John Agyekum Kufuor that gave Dr. Nduom the opportunity to head a ministry. He stated that the former CPP Flagbearer did not achieve all his goals in isolation but was operating under the direction, support and policy of the NPP. A former Minister of Public Sector Reform under the Kufuor regime, Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom said during the launch of his campaign to vie for the flagbearership of the CPP again that he should be credited for several of the ongoing national policies in Ghana at the moment and that should attest to the fact that he is capable of ruling this country to success. According to him, the Single Spine Salary Structure which is being enjoyed by section of the public servants was initiated at the time he was with the Kufuors administration. "Soon there will be two brand new ferries on the Volta Lake under the Millennium Challenge Account, I made it happened. When the brand new six lanes Tetteh Quarshie to Mallam are opened, you should ask yourself who made that happen? It is this CPP man, Papa Kwesi Nduom, Adwumawura," he touted. But speaking on Metro TVs Good Morning Ghana show on Friday, Nana Akomea said it was improper for Paa Kwesi Nduom to launch his campaign by claiming credit for projects initiated during the tenure of ex-President Kufuor. It is customary for a minister of state to tout projects and development that has happened under his tenure but when you do that and seek to use it against the government that gave you the opportunity; then it is totally wrongHe is using it to campaign against the NPP that is totally wrong, he did all that under the direction of somebody; the president at that time and as part of the cabinet of the government so he cannot be using that to campaign against the government or cabinet that gave him the opportunity and direction to be able to do these, he objected. The NPP Member of Parliament for Okaikoi South however stated that Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom could win the flagbearership of the CPP for a second time but has no chance in the presidency. Dr. Nduom has solid achievements as a person but the party he represents has got no space in the general politics of Ghana, Nana Akomea added.
