The Ghana Medical Association says the decision to call off its strike action was primarily to show respect to the National Labour Commission. The commission is currently coordinating the ongoing compulsory arbitration process between the doctors and Fair Wages and Salaries Commission which started on Monday. The national executive council of the GMA in a statement on Wednesday said the strike was called off following an emergency meeting. It mentioned among others numerous appeals by Ghanaians both in and out of Ghana coupled with Tuesday night�s flooding in some parts of the capital city as reasons for calling off the strike. The President of the Greater Accra branch of the Ghana Medical Association, Dr. Frank Owusu-Sekyere told Citi News that the coming days will be crucial for the Labour Commission. He said �I trust and pray that they (NLC) will give justice not judgment. � Meanwhile, a Labour Consultant, Senyo Adjabeng has also commended the doctors for calling off their strike. He said the gesture has saved the image of the labour front and labour resolution processes in the country which was under threat. Mr. Adjabeng had earlier criticized the doctors for refusing to call off the strike earlier in the week while compulsory arbitration was underway. However, after suspending their three week strike on Wednesday, Mr. Adjabeng told Citi News that the suspension �would now create a plain field for the compulsory arbitration to be a lot more objective for the labour commission. �
