NPP deserve credit for Ghanas success - Kufuor

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor says the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on whose wings he came to power and led the nation as president for eight years, can rightly claim credit for contributing to the international repute chalked up by the country. Everywhere you go Europe, Asia, the Americas Ghana now is acknowledged as the country with the greatest potential. People are saying we will become the fastest growing economy within the next 2, 3 years. I believe our party can rightly claim to have contributed immensely to this distinction, he said. Mr Kufuor was addressing newsmen at the airport on his return from the US where he received his World Food Prize. He advised political leaders to view power as a privilege to serve the people. When we keep this at the back of our minds, I believe we will see that belonging to different parties should not engender enmity and the unnecessary harsh words and unfounded allegations will definitely be consigned to the past; so we move ahead with the promise Ghana represents, he counseled. President Kufuor once again dedicated his award to all Ghanaians and asked everyone to rally together to ensure the country lives up to the high expectations of the entire world. The former President also pledged his support to help government find a lasting solution to Accras perennial floods. It follows an appeal by President Mills during his tour of flood-stricken communities for a bipartisan approach to the problem. Mr Kufuor expressed condolence to families whose relatives died in the floods, saying Its a sad day. He was with former Vice-President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama.
