Alcoholic Beats Up His Bosom Friend

The Circuit Court at Dormaa has sentenced an alcoholic who beat up his bosom friend to pulp for refusing to buy him more drinks to a fine of GHC480.00 or in default spend 18 months in jail. The bosom friend lost some of his teeth as a result of the beating. Inspector Bismarck Boye Lartey told the Court presided over by Mr. Alexander Osei-Tutu that the convict was an unemployed young man resident at Aboabo No. 1 while his friend, Mr Aboagye, was a resident of Aboabo No. 2. He said on October 21 this year Oppong went to his friend and asked him to buy him alcoholic beverage to drink. Prosecution said Mr Aboagye complied and took Oppong to the nearest drinking spot and bought him the quantity that he (Aboagye) felt was enough for his friend. He said on their way out of the spot, the convict requested for more of the drink but Aboagye refused whereupon Oppong attempted to forcibly take money from Aboagyes pocket to buy the drink. When his friend resisted the attempt , the convict took offence, butted him in the face, beat him up mercilessly and left him unconscious on the ground, the inspector added. Inspector Lartey said a passer-by who appeared at the scene rushed Aboagye to the Presbyterian Clinic in the town where he was resuscitated and later transferred to the Dormaa Presbyterian Hospital.
