The Unemployed Graduates Association of Ghana (UGAG) is calling for an unqualified apology from Local Government Minister, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, for reportedly directing jobless graduates in the country to resort to barbering, hairdressing and mobile phone repairs. The Daily Guide newspaper attributed the comment to the minister when he was addressing a NALAG Congress in Tamale. The report said among other things that the minister said the initiative would help the unemployed graduates establish their own businesses with the support of the ministry. But the president of UGAG, Justice Kojo Antwi, told Citi News the minister�s call is most unfortunate and very offensive to unemployed graduates. Meanwhile, Hon. Ampofo, who denies making the statement said in an interview with Citi News that he would not apologise to anybody over the matter. �The best thing the unemployed graduates association should have done was to have looked for the text of the statement that I made before they even make this demand because I think the demand is uncalled for and it is premature," he noted. �Indeed what I indicated was that I used a generic word �graduates� and the context was with JHS and SHS graduates. "So I am so surprised that people would just jump up and say that I am asking university graduates with BSc and HND to go and do hairdressing and barbering." Hon. Ampofo added: �At least, people should credit me with some intelligence that I would never make such a statement. �I would not apologise to anybody because I�ve not made any such statement. �
