Six University of Ghana Students Charged With Murder

Six students of the University of Ghana have been provisionally charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder over the death of a first year fellow student. The six will face the District Magistrate Court in Accra to determine the extent of their involvement in the death of Kofi Nti-Boateng. The deceased is alleged to have fallen from the first floor of Block B of the Pentagon Hostel last weekend and later died. Speaking to Citi News, the Crime Officer of the Legon Police, ASP Emmanuel Basintale, said the current charges are provisional since investigations are ongoing to uncover the real cause of death. For now we are holding them for conspiracy to commit murder and murder itself and then causing harm," Basintale said. "These are the provisional charges." But then when the docket is sent to the AG [Attorney General], they would decide on the specific charges to be given to them. We just going to seek for remand to enable us continue with our investigations." He added: We are not taking them to the court that would be trying them because for now we havent come to the conclusion whether they have committed the offence or not. After the investigations some of those charges may change.
