Labour Commission Workers Threaten Strike

Workers of the National Labour Commission (NLC) have threatened to go on strike over the delay in migrating them onto the Single Spine Salary Structure. The leadership of the NLC has confirmed to Citi News a meeting will take place with the workers over their concerns. The workers of the Commission are reportedly angry the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) is hesitant in confirming to them when exactly they will be put on the new pay structure. The chairman of the NLC, Joseph Aryeetey, told Citi News, discussions have taken place between the FWSC and his outfit relating to the migration. He said the workers will be briefed on the progress of those discussions at the meeting. We were not aware that they had expressed any dissatisfaction with that situation because we are aware that the executive secretary has been relating to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on the matter of migration," Aryeetey said. So far as I know the matter was well in hand but the fair wages and salaries commission has been quite busy in the past few weeks about other institutions that have also been agitating for the migration. I was rather surprised to hear that our staffs were not so happy and that they would attempt a demonstration, he added.
