Rawlings Is Unique & Sees Beyond Ordinary - Pelpuo

The Deputy Majority Leader of Ghana's Parliament, Rashid Pelpuo, is courting members of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)to accept former president JJ Rawlings' criticisms of President John Mills. Pelpuo, who doubles as MP for Wa Central, said what NDC members and for that matter Ghanaians are missing is their inability to realise that the ex-president has grown beyond partisan politics and "sees things as a statesman." Speaking on Citi FM's Eyewitness News on Thursday, Hon. Pelpuo described the NDC founder as "a unique personality seeing beyond the ordinary." He said Rawlings has now put on the cloth of a statesman, who criticise based on what he deems fit for the country, therefore, people must not misconstrue that to mean he hates the incumbent president. Pelpuo said regardless of the so called strained relationship between both personalities - Rawlings and Mills - he foresees the former president coming onboard the campaign train of the NDC when the election fever catches on. "I expect to see Rawlings coming," he said. "He has grown above partisan politics. He's played more a statesman role than an NDC person." The Wa MP said the pockets of skirmishes that has hit the party, which he termed "internal opposition" are good for them in order to know their weaknesses and resolve them early ahead of the 2012 general elections.
