Ben Ephsons Son Trial Takes A Long Break

The trial of Jude Fiifi Ephson, a 20-year-old son of Ben Ephson, Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, for alleged obscenity, has taken a long break. The accused person was yesterday accompanied by his father to an Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) Magistrate Court to answer a charge of obscenity after he could not make it to court at the last hearing due to illness. The prosecuting principal attorney, Rexford Wiredu, informed the court presided over by Ali Baba that investigations into the matter were yet to be concluded by the police. He therefore prayed the court to adjourn the matter and Egbert Faibille, counsel for Ephson, did not object it. The magistrate court consequently adjourned the case to January 10, 2012. The accused person was also alleged to have raped an ex-girlfriend and a colleague student of the University of Ghana (UG). The facts of the case are that the complainant, Michael Anyamesem, is a banker and the father of the victim, a level 200 student of UG who lives with him at Taifa. It said Ephson is also a student of UG and an ex-boyfriend of the victim. According to the facts, on March 25, 2011, in the afternoon, the suspect visited the victim in her hostel at Pentagon while she was cleaning her bathroom and she came out of the bathroom and served him a glass of fruit juice. Because the young lady was busy, she did not pay much attention to her visitor and after she finished with the cleaning, she drank the remaining juice. After taking the drink, the victim felt dizzy and fell asleep while the young man was still around but she woke up later to find out that she had been raped. The facts said the victim did not tell anybody about it because of the stigma the case might bring on her but about 14 weeks later, a picture of her being raped appeared on the internet with only the eyebrows, thighs and penis of the guy showing in the video. Family pictures of the lady were also found on the net. The victim, after seeing pictures of her being raped, remembered that young Ephson was the only one who visited her before she was raped. According to the facts, the young lady became alarmed and informed her family immediately and a report was made to the police. The suspect was arrested and granted police enquiry bail.
