Accra Mayor Donates Toilets On 56th Birthday

The Mayor of Accra, Alfred Vanderpuije, as part of his 56th birthday celebration donated toilets to some residents in the capital. Three toilets were donated to some callers into the Citi Breakfast Show on Friday. Each toilet is estimated to cost GHC 1, 800. Speaking on the show, an elated Vanderpuije, who has come under fire recently by his members for allegedly running a one-man show, said the move is part of the city authority's campaign for all households in the capital city to have places of convenience. Reports have it that about 70 per cent of households in Accra are without toilet facilities. Persons who were privileged to benefit from the mayor's toilet project would have it constructed for them within two weeks by two institutions working in collaboration with the AMA. The mayor on his 55th birthday last year undertook a clean-up exercise at the Awudome Cemetery and said instead of sitting home or in the office to be collecting gifts, he would rather give back to the community.
