Wife-Beating Pastor Appears Before Court

A 46-year-old head pastor of the Trinity Salvation Ministry at Maakro in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District, has appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly beating up his wife. Apostle K. Amponsem denied the offence and was granted a GH 6,000.00 bail with a surety. He was ordered to re-appear on Thursday, November 17. Police Inspector Philip Yao Bebli told the court, presided over by Justice Richard Mac Kogyapwah, that the accused and Prophetess Comfort Konadu have been married for barely nine months. He said for some time now the pastor had been spending his nights in the church and had made his intention to walk out of the marriage no secrete. Inspector Bebli said he even refused to either give money to keep the home or talk to his wife. The prosecution said on September 29, Prophetess Konadu, who had invested heavily in the church since she returned from Europe, openly clashed with the husband during worship. The couple engaged in hot verbal exchanges and later left for the house, where Apostle Amponsem physically assaulted her. Police Inspector Bebli said the woman received abrasions all over her body and made a formal report to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU). He was therefore arrested and charged with the crime after investigations.
