Poor BECE Performance Caused By NPP

The Ministry of Education has debunked claims by the NPP that the National Democratic Congress is responsible for the poor performance of students who sat for this years Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The Executive Director of the Policy Think Tank, Danquah Institute, Gabby Asare Otchere Darko came out with a publication last week indicating that the Atta Mills Government has recorded the worst BECE results in 8yrs. Responding to the publication, Deputy Education Minister Mahama Ayariga denied the claims saying it is rather the NPP that is to blame for the falling academic standards. He said the 2011 BECE candidates are children who for six and a half years under the NPP regime that is from September 2002 to January 2009 were in basic school. The rest of their two and a half years of basic education was received under the NDC regime thus from January 2009 and to June 2011. "Whilst the NPP had six and a half years to mould them, NDC had only two and a half years to finish the work.
