PNC National Congress Faces Postponement

The Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the Peoples National Convention (PNC) has said the regional wings of the party may call for a postponement of the forthcoming national congress scheduled from November 25 to 27, at Sunyani. Mr. Ham Quartey believes the postponement is necessary to allow the various constituencies and regions to hold their congresses before the national one is held as stipulated by the partys constitution. He intimated that only one - Brong-Ahafo - out of the 10 regions has successfully supervised and concluded its constituency level congresses so far. The rest of the regions are yet to complete," Quartey told Citi News. "So if we are not able to meet the deadline then we have to call for the postponement of the national congress. Mr. Quartey said though his region hopes to begin processes towards its congress by the end of this week, he cannot guarantee it will be done in time. Conversely, the National Chairman of the PNC, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, has said there will be no need for postponement as the party remains optimistic all will go on as planned. What we are saying is that, as at now, it will not get to that, Alhaji Ramadan said. But in case, close to the congress we realise that there is this kind of difficulty, we will always get together and adjust the date appropriately.
