Citibank Employees Volunteer Services

Staff, friends and family of Citibank N.A. Ghana Representative Office have volunteered their services toward refurbishment of the Mankoadze Community Nursery School in the Central Region. This was to mark this years Global Community Day, an annual event for employees of the bank, and demonstrate their commitment to service in their communities. A statement from the bank said: Educating children in impoverished areas is our objective this year. Our aim is to improve the standard of education under the theme Working Towards Our Africa Community Efforts through Education. We chose Mankoadze to volunteer our time and services. The communitys nursery school was lacking some basic infrastructure furniture, fittings, learning aids and materials for teachers and pupils. The school building had also become structurally unstable and a health hazard. The volunteers fixed and painted the school building, repaired the concrete pavement and stairs around the building, repaired classroom floors and provided windows and gates for the security of the children. The team also provided numerous learning materials to the tune of US$8000 to the school. Francis Awua-Kyeremanten Jnr., Country Director, on behalf of the bank and staff donated 70 double-desks, tables and chairs, reading materials, toys and crayons to the school. Globally, around 40,000 Citi employees marked the day by lending their time and expertise to concentrate on local community needs including literacy, housing, environmental protection, nutrition, health-care and disaster-relief. They participated in nearly 1,100 local projects throughout North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
