PINK October: Breast Care Awareness Month Observed

Breast Care International (BCI) Ghana together with Peace and Love Hospitals, have organized activities to mark this years World Breast Cancer Awareness Month dubbed Pink October at Bechem in the Tano-South District of the Brong Ahafo Region. October, every year is celebrated all over the world to highlight breast cancer survivors, to create awareness and to encourage early detection of the disease for meaningful treatment. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer. As well as providing a platform for breast cancer charities to raise awareness of their work and of the disease, it is also a prime opportunity to remind women to be breast aware for earlier detection. In Ghana, this years program was held with the support of the Tano-South District Assembly, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Hon.Bukari Zakari Anaba and the Chiefs and elders of Bechem. It was on the theme BREAST CANCER AWARENESS, JOIN THE FIGHT, GET INVOLVED and focused on an aggressive approach to Breast Cancer awareness creation through concerted efforts with stakeholders, corporate bodies, companies and individuals. Addressing some of the participants at a durbar held as part of the celebration, the President of BCI and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Peace and Love Hospitals in Accra and Kumasi, Dr (Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe Addai, gave the assurance that through some activities planned for this year, breast cancer mortality and morbidity is expected to be reduced between 20 to 50 percent.
