A Ghanaian who travelled to Mecca, an Islamic holy place in Saudi Arabia, to participate in this year�s Hajj has been confirmed dead. Sumaila Atipahuri, 72, from Bawku in the Upper East region of Ghana sojourned with the Ghanaian contingent a fortnight ago to Mecca to take part in the annual Hajj pilgrimage. A member of the Hajj committee, Hajia Lardi, who confirmed the report to Citi News said Mr. Atipahuri died after he had suffered from diarrhoea early in the day.According to Hajia Lardi, the mortal remains of Atipahuri has been deposited at the mortuary awaiting burial. She said some family members of the deceased would be handed the body later for burial in Mecca. Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports also indicate that some two other Ghanaians lost their lives on Tuesday and their bodies have been deposited at the morgue.Over 3,000 pilgrims were airlifted to Saudi Arabia to participate in this year�s Hajj which started on October 14 and ended on November 4. The Hajj pilgrims are expected back in Ghana by the end of next week after the successful completion of this year�s Hajj.
