One of the three winners of last month�s male category of the Exopa-NEWS-ONE monthly Fashion Caf� has called on young persons who have an interest in modeling not to get discouraged by public criticisms but rather go ahead and explore their potentials. �Maybe we have not read much about modeling but it is big business in other parts of the world and I do not see why we should not grow our modeling industry in Ghana. There have been times we have brought in foreign models to work in Ghana and paid them good money. This means that there is a market for models in Ghana so we must train ourselves to take over that market,� Kelvin Agyei-Mensah, a 19-year-old graduate of Adisadel College, told NEWS-ONE. He emerged the second runner-up of the October edition of the Exopa contest and he has told NEWS-ONE how he feels about the experience and a little bit about himself �Honestly, I feel very good about it and I hope all other guys and girls out there who have an interest in modeling would take advantage of this competition and go try their chances and explore their potentials. �I have always desired to become a model and the opportunity came for me so I just grabbed it and now I feel I am on my way to the top. I can only hope to climb from here and go places,� Kelvin added. McCoy or Kelvin �Kelvin is my name but McCoy is my nickname. It means genuine and my friends gave the name to me because I am a very genuine guy. My �yes� is my �yes� and my �no� is my �no�. When I deal with people I am very open and come with a clean heart and that is where I got the name from. It is true I graduated from Adisco this year and I was the house prefect for Elliot House.� Motivation �Two or three things motivated me to go for the contest. I went to see if I could use the platform to reach the modeling dream I have had for some three years now. I went to have fun and I went for the fame, the glamour and the celebrity feeling. I hope to use it to know more people and build contacts with stakeholders in the entertainment industry even as I want to enter the university next year.� Dancing �Your question just makes me laugh. Hmm the dance part of the competition was a big deal for me because I am not a dancer. You see, there is a difference between someone who is a dancer and someone who can just dance. The music was an �Azonto� rhythm. I did my best but if I had looked at the audience, I would not have been able to dance because it makes me anxious but all the same it felt good and I was surprised I was part of the final three.� Clothing �One other thing I also do is clothing designing. I design most of my own clothes and give it to someone to stitch or sew for me. I can�t explain how I do it but I just look at the shape of my body and what designs and colours would look good on me. A nice clothing or design that looks good on someone may not look good on you depending on your shape and skin colour and all that so I take all these into consideration.�
