Nana Konadu Rawlings To Be Made Chief

Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has been penciled for a chieftaincy title in the Eastern Region, a traditional activity which is set to add to her growing voice in local politics. The former First Lady and President of 31st December Womens Movement is going to be the recipient of the title of Enkonsuo Hemaa, development queenmother, an honour to be bestowed upon her by Nana Barfour Anon II, Chief of Dokrochiwa in the Suhum Kraboa-Coaltar District in the Eastern Region. As Enkosuo Hemaa of the area, she would have the opportunity of initiating development projects, especially interacting with the youth and women. The 15th December 2011 event is expected to draw a lot of politicians to the town. Without doubt, the former First Lady, whose countrywide tour recently to express gratitude to NDC delegates who voted for her during the Sunyani congress of the party, will use the occasion to deliver a political statement. She and her husband, Jerry John Rawlings, have made scathing remarks about the government whenever they have the opportunity to make such presentations. Nana Konadu, who has already accepted the honour in a September 27th 2011 acknowledgement letter, told her benefactor that I write to acknowledge receipt and to thank you for your decision and that of the elders to enstool me as the Nkosuohemaa of Dokrochiwa, an enstoolment that I duly accept and intend to uphold towards the development and growth of Dokrochiwa. She stated that I am honoured to have been nominated for such a role, and hope I will be a source of encouragement for women, men and the youth in the community. Invitations have already been sent out and attendance is expected to be mega.
