Mawuena Dumor Trebah - I Met My Husband By Divine Intervention

Mawuena Trebah, the former Corporate Service Executive of MTN Ghana, has passion for most of the issues she pursues in life. However, there is one social issue that she feels most passionate about. It is her marriage to Flt Lt. Divine Trebah, a serving Air Force officer of the Ghana Armed Forces in Takoradi. According to Mawuena, she met her husband through a friend during her birthday party. They became friends, courted and got married on February 13, 2010. Mawuena in a chat with The Mirror last Wednesday, described her husband as, � a wonderful and loving man." "I met him by divine providence. I am blessed to be married to Divine�, she stated. Asked why she kept her marriage to Divine a secret, she explained that �it was a family affair, there was nothing secretive about it. It is important to make a distinction between a family affair and work related events.� Mawuena has a nine-month old daughter, Katherine Joy Trebah. Until her exit from the giant telecommunications company, Mawuena was arguably the face of MTN. Most of the public that had business to do as well as the patrons of the MTN network identified Mawuena with MTN. This recognition, she said was either crafted consciously or unconsciously through the passionate commitment of her duties,and she always executed her mandate with precision. Mawuena's rare determination to succeed and make an impact on the love of her country men and women, including expatriates , has helped her carve a niche for herself as an ambitious, focussed and hardworking personality. Last Saturday at the 2011 congregation of the University of Ghana, Mawuena who was the special guest of honour held her audience, particularly the university community spellbound with her insightful and thought provoking presentation. At the end of the programme, the chairman of the University Council, Justice Datey-Baah, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Joseph Aryeetey, professors, senior lecturers and the graduating students commended and gave her thumbs-up. According to Mawuena, she was contacted by the Vice Chancellor to speak at the congregation. �Initially, I was surprised, but at the same time I found it to be a great honour. Later the invitation came and I grabbed the opportunity to share what life has taught me with the students, " she added. Mawuena is a graduate of the University of Jos in the Plateau State of Nigeria, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology and Mining in September 1996. She later studied for an MBA in Management and Strategic Planning at the McCallum Graduate School of Business, Bentley College, Waltham, Maryland in the USA, in 2002. Before then she had worked with Ashanti Goldfields as the Investment Relations Officer. She later joined Newmont Ghana (2003 to 2007) as Manager, Communications. Mawuena moved on to MTN in 2007 as Corporate Services Executive and resigned in August 2011. During her stay with MTN, she developed, managed and executed an overall reputation management strategy for the company. She was also responsible for the promotion of the company�s image in all areas of the business within Ghana through communications strategies, including regular interaction with the media, trade and interest groups, government officials and other stakeholders. Mawuena is the first of three children of Prof. Ernest Dumor, a sociologist and former member of the Electoral Commission and head of the National Identification Authority, and the late Mrs Cecilia Dumor. Komla Dumor of BBC and Dr Korshie Dumor are his young siblings. Mawuena, an April 12 born, is grateful to her parents who brought them up in an environment where they were made to understand that �service to others is one major key to success.� According to Mawuena, �our late mum invested so much in her and her brothers, which today gives me a sense of fulfillment.� Her interests are jazz, classical, R & B and gospel music, Business in Africa, reading and watching movies. She is a Catholic and worships at the Holy Spirit Cathedral in Accra.
