Army Investigates Alleged Police Brutalities

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) is carrying out an investigation to confirm the alleged involvement of soldiers in a clash that was reported to have ensued between police and soldiers in Tamale last Saturday. Four security personnel including a pregnant police woman sustained various degrees of injury when soldiers allegedly attacked traffic police personnel on duty at the Central Business Area. Speaking to Citi News, the spokesperson of the Ghana Armed Forces, Colonel Mbawine Atintande said investigations by the Ghana Armed Forces will reveal the identities of the said assailants. It is premature to jump to the conclusion that soldiers have nabbed policemen, he said. Weve spoken to a few others including the commanding officer and then there is an investigation that is going on to ascertain the fact as to whether it was soldiers who were alleged to have beaten the policemen. He said: These people were in mufti that is ordinary civilian clothes and I dont think that we can conclude that is what happened. In any case, the military and the police command in the region met at the regional security committee meeting chaired by the regional minister to address concerns."
