NDC Has Stabilised Ghana's Economy - Andrew Awuni

A former spokesperson to former President J. A Kufuor, Andrew Awuni, has commended the Atta Mills-led National Democratic Congress for putting Ghanas economy on a sound footing. Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, Mr Awuni said despite the fact that the NDC government has managed to stabilise the economy, it would not have been possible if they (NDC) had not inherited a well managed economy from the erstwhile Kufuor administration. I think they have done well, but I have a little problem, because the very things they did not believe in, this evening I heard Haruna [Iddrisu] talking about inflation, Haruna didnt believe in inflation, they told me inflation doesnt matter, today they want us to agree with them, he recalled. But I will agree with themthey have managed the economy very well, even though they had difficulties with the currency. They took over when the dollar was matching shoulder to shoulder with our cedi in 2009, they run it down to about GhC1. 50 now GhC1. 60, so we are talking about stability, Awuni noted. Touching on the threat issued by the Communications Director at the Presidency, Koku Anyidoho to the NPP flagbearer, Mr. Awuni said his successors comment must not be taken for granted. Mr. Anyidoho told London-based Focus radio on Tuesday that Nana Addo, the NPP chairman Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey and former chairman Mac Manu may all die first if they persisted with their all-die-be-die mantra. Mr. Anyidoho said government will deal with the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo if he dares incite his supporters to engage in electoral violence next year According to Mr. Awuni, President Mills must publicly distance himself from those utterances to demonstrate that he is truly against foul languages. He called for decorum in the political landscape as the country gears up for the 2012 general elections.
