"Samia Has No Presidential Ambition"

The General Secretary of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP), Ivor Greenstreet has denied allegations that the chairperson of the party Samia Yaba Nkrumah is nursing presidential ambitions for 2016. Dr. Sekou Nkrumah, brother to Samia claimed that some leaders of the CPP are considering grooming his sister to run as president in 2016. Dr. Nkrumah, however, cautioned the leadership of the CPP that Samia is not the trump card for the resurrection of their fathers party. He said being the daughter of Ghanas first president is not enough to get the CPP back into power. Speaking to Citi News, Dr Nkrumah stated that Samias presidential ambition is destroying the CPP. The party from 1992 has been performing poorly in both the presidential and the parliamentary [elections] and I am saying being Nkrumahs daughter would not change the situation, he said. He added: What would change the situation is that, the activists in the party would have to start working to bring the party up and then you come in with children and ideals that would attract the current generation. However, Greenstreet has expressed surprise at Dr Nkrumahs claims. He said Samia and the new executives are busy trying to put the party in order and have never had any discussion about contesting for the 2016 elections. I have had no conversation with her nor have I seen any document nor has there been any discussion where that subject has ever crossed up, he stressed.
