The incumbent Member of Parliament for the North Tongu constituency in the Volta region, Charles Hodogbey, has stated that he is unfazed by the declaration by a deputy Minister of Information, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, to challenge him for his seat.
According to Mr. Hodogbey, since it is a democratic election anybody is welcomed to compete against him. He was, however, quick to add that his constituents would endorse him due to the enormous work that he has undertaken in the constituency.
Ablakwa on Thursday officially announced that he will be running for the North Tongu parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2012.
He confirmed to citifmonline. com that he has finally made up his mind to contest the seat after a sober reflection, which followed on the heels of persuasion from his admirers.
�I officially declare my interest to contest the North Tongu Parliamentary primaries. I remain grateful for the overwhelming continuous support and believe in the ability of the youth and pledge to remain dedicated to the cause of our great nation,� Ablakwa posted on his official facebook page.
However, speaking to Citi News in an interview, Mr. Hodogbey stated that the deputy minister�s declaration does not in any way threaten him.
He stated: �It is a democratic election and anybody is invited to contest, I am not threatened at all, as I said it is a democratic contest and anybody can contest.
�The delegates would determine�the last time six people contested me and I beat them. My constituents would judge me by my performance. �
