The Communications Director for the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Akomea, has posited that big wigs in the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) are jostling against each other for parliamentary seats because they are not confident of winning the 2012 General Elections. His comment comes in the wake of confirmed media reports that some NDC stalwarts, including Ministers and deputy ministers in the Mills� administration have declared their intention to pit their strengths against incumbent Members of Parliament to contest certain parliamentary seats after the party opened nominations on Thursday. Some of the names gunning to represent their constituents in parliament are sitting government appointees such as a Deputy Information Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and a Deputy Transport Minister, Dzifa Ativor. Others include a Deputy Finance Minister, Fifi Kwetey, Richard Quashigah, National Propaganda Secretary of the ruling party and Zita Okaikoi, former Information and Tourism Minister. Speaking as a panelist on Metro TV�s �Good Morning Ghana� Show, Nana Akomea described as �strange�, the scramble for parliamentary seats by the NDC big guns. ��the only reason I have for they doing this is that they�re not sure they will retain power�why would you want to remove someone who has the same belief, and heading towards the same direction; why would you want to remove an incumbent member in the same party?� he quizzed.
