NDC Executives Refute FONKA Allegation

The Executives of the Agona East branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have refuted allegations made by FONKAR members that they assisted Mrs Queensila Pokuah Sawyer to win last Saturdays parliamentary primaries. They said there is no FONKAR or GAME in the Agona East NDC as being alleged by the Communications Director of FONKAR, Mr Owusu Bempah, on Accra based radio and TV stations. Addressing a press conference at Agona Swedru on Monday, Mr Samuel Oscar Mensah, Constituency Secretary of the NDC, said the statement by Friends of Konadu Agyeman Rawlings (FONKAR) was an attempt to throw dust into the eyes of NDC members in the Agona East and Central Region. Mr Mensah said Mrs Sawyer never contacted any FONKAR member for assistance before, during and after the parliamentary primaries. He said Mrs Sawyer used NDC members generally in her campaign as was done by any other contestants. Mr Mensah said FONKAR and GAME groups were dissolved by the National Executives of NDC as was announced by Mr Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, General Secretary of the party after Sunyani presidential congress. Mr Mensah said the executives and entire members only know NDC as the party which had won power and is ruling the country to push better Ghana Agenda policy. Mr Francis Baidu, the Constituency Organizer, said Mr Ahwoi in his speech after the election pledged his unflinching support for Mrs Sawyer to enable her win the parliamentary seat in 2012 elections and nothing should not be done to bring disunity in the party. He said it was not true that there was serious rift between Mr Kwesi Ahwoi and Mrs Sawyer as being peddled by FONKAR members. The Constituency Organizer said there was peace in the Agona East NDC after the parliamentary primaries and appealed to members of the party to remain calm to ensure peace and development. Mr Baidu said Mrs Sawyer has invited all contestants and delegates to her victory party on December 3 at her residence at Agona Kwanyako.
