Who I Am Lands Man In Trouble

Why did you stop me? Do you know who I am! I was talking to a minister who is important than you. These were the words of an alleged government official arrested by the police for driving while talking on the cell phone. The suspect, Nicholas Gyabaah, believed to be a worker of Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, was alleged to be interchanging lanes indiscriminately as well. The incident, according to Inspector E.K Dossu, a Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) officer in charge of investigations, occurred on the Mallam-Kasoa Road around 9:20am Wednesday morning. The suspect was driving a Honda Civic saloon car with registration number GR 1306-10, from Weija towards Accra. When a police officer from the MTTU spotted Gyabaah and consequently stopped him, he asked why had been stopped. The police officer told the suspect that it was an offence to drive while talking on phone and interchanging lanes as well but the suspect got angry and yelled at the policeman. The suspect, according to Inspector Dossu, said, Do you know who I am and with whom I was talking to? I was speaking with a minister who is more important than you are. When the police officer further requested the suspects drivers licence, he refused and consequently asked the officer to get out of his away and sped off. A senior police officer who closely observed the incident chased the suspect and arrested him. Gyabaah was escorted by the senior police officer to the National Police MTTU offices for questioning. The suspect has been charged with failing to retain complete control of vehicle, causing danger to other road users, dangerous driving, resisting arrest, and offensive conduct. He will be arraigned before court soon.
