Airtel Acquires 50 million Customers

Airtel Limited, a telecommunications services provider with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa, has celebrated a significant milestone following its attainment of 50 millionth mobile customer in Africa. A statement copied to the Ghana News Agency and signed by Mavis Kumi, Public Relations and Web Coordinator for Airtel Ghana, said the company had achieved this milestone within 17 months of acquiring Zain�s mobile operations in 16 African countries. It said during that period the company added 14 million new mobile customers. �This milestone demonstrates our continued dedication and commitment to Africa,� said Mr. Manoj Kohli, Chief Executive Officer and Joint Managing Director of Bharti Airtel Limited. The statement said the company had invested one billion dollors towards roll-out of networks and would continue its strong focus on network quality and coverage, deep distribution network and electronic recharge, innovative data services and superior customer service. It thanked customers in Ghana for reposing their faith in brand Airtel and said Airtel is committed to serving them with world-class services. The statement also thanked the governments and regulators on the continent for their support and reiterated its vision of bridging the digital divide with affordable telecom services.
