I Lost Gallantly Kwasi Ahwoi

The Minister of Food and Agriculture last Friday stated that he lost gallantly in the recent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Primaries. Kwesi Ahwoi admitted this when addressing the gathering at the national Farmers Day celebrations held at Agona Nsaba in the Agona East District of the Central Region. He stated that he lost narrowly to represent his people in Parliament, a situation he said had made a mark in his life. Mr Ahwoi, who polled 143, was beaten by an estate developer, Madam Queenstar Pokuah Sawyer, who had 146 votes. Mr Ahwoi made the comment when the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, John Kwesi Agyaben, who came to witness the celebration, failed to take a seat at the dais. The MP was spotted seated with the ordinary people even though a place had been reserved for him at the dais to join the other dignitaries. The Food and Agric Minister hinted that the MP refused to join the dignitaries at the dais because he was afraid that Madam Sawyer would beat him too, a statement which attracted a lot of laughter from the crowd. Madam Sawyer was then seated close to the dais. Mr Agyaben, to prove the minister wrong, got up from where he was sitting and joined the dignitaries at the dais. Although there were speculations that the venue for the ceremony would be changed because of the ministers defeat, the ceremony was held in a peaceful atmosphere without any hitch. The Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Nii Amasah Namualey, nearly destroyed the beauty of the ceremony when he was called to address the gathering. Mr. Namualey, who could not give any meaningful statement, said the ministry did not know the political affiliations of the award winners since they set a committee for the selection process. Neither me or any of the ministers know the political affiliations of the award winners. I do not know whether the award winners belong to the Elephant in the bush or the Great Umbrella family, he stated.
